As part of my multimedia writing minor, one of our assignments was to use our own updated interpretation of the "selfie" movement. So rather than simply taking a picture of yourself, this selfie was supposed to combine elements of your life that expressed your inside interests to the public all in one picture. The original image is a close-up selfie I took of myself at the airport and the faded background image is of the Los Angeles skyline, which is not only where I was returning to at the time but the place that I call home.
Although the SlideDoc was a variation on an essay I had previously written, it was one of the more painstaking and challenging design projects that I had taken on in college. A SlideDoc is a hybrid between a typical Powerpoint presentation and a longer-winded essay. It is meant to stand alone as both a visually pleasing and information-filled presentation that has a theme tying the entire thing together. The most challenging part of the project was to find images to express the writing in a way that wasn't overtly literal.
One of the only large scale collaborative design projects that I worked on was to design a poster for the professional writing minor at UCSB that outlined important information and meeting times. Just like any other flyer, the main purpose was to create something that would stand out in otherwise drab hallways. This is why my partner and I decided to use extreme color contrast in what ended up looking like an awesome band poster rather than an informational flyer. Nonetheless, its versatility is what makes it one of my favorites.
